Gua Sha is a healing treatment used to move blood and Qi, promote circulation and normalize metabolic processes. Gua, means to scrape or rub and Sha, means blood stasis. It is a perfect technique for muscle pain and stiffness and is recommended for respiratory problems such as bronchitis and asthma. This treatment is also used to ward off flu.
The technique is done by rubbing the skin with a ceramic spoon or lid in areas of stagnation. Small red dots will surface, indicating that blood and Qi were stuck and that there was excess heat. Following treatment, the stagnated areas begin to flow freely and the body cools, returning to a more balanced condition. The red dots will disappear from 7-10 days following treatment.
